In the process of installing windows 7 on my shiny new computer, it froze up. I held down the power button after waiting about ten minutes. The computer froze on the updating windows section of the installation. After a re-boot the computer tells me this: "Windows could not finish configuring the system, To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer." I re-boot and it says the same thing.

    Please help me!

Hi Benjamin Ray. Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
Not sure what you mean by "WiFi: through laptop... via Ethernet"
I suggest a reinstall, select the right partition reformat again.

Haven't seen what I think is meant here in a while and am going to take a guess... "WiFi: through laptop... via Ethernet"

On the laptop internet sharing is enabled and you are using a cable to allow the share. If this is the case select to NOT update Windows 7 during the install. As simplified as things are during the install it is probably not going to like trying to deal with a shared connection.

Hi, as said by DSTM, you will need to try a reformat and re-install and as Jay said with the connection disconnected, get Windows 7 installed first.
Now then I have seen a problem elsewhere regarding an install of Windows 7 with problems when Windows updates try to install.

Can you please confirm if this is a plain Windows 7, home premium, Professional, or ultimate.
Or, is it a Windows 7 complete with service pack one and whatever type, home, pro, etc.

If it is only Windows 7 without service pack 1, please let us know.

    Nev.
