A botnet or botnet zombie is a malicious program that turns your computer into an unwitting participant in the distribution of other malicious software and/or email without you knowing you are infected.

Comcast has announced that it will be offering its 16,000,000 customers a service that will monitor any connection that you may have to the known botnet servers. Apparently if it notices a possible infection because of these connection it will send an email followed by some form of "browser notification." It will offer instructions on the removal as well as repeating its free Norton protection.

The free Norton protection has been a staple of the Comcast ISP and while I do not personally avail myself of it (I am not a fan ) it is a good step for the average user who may have no protection at all.
