Regarding actual size of the tv screen itself ...

The ratio between the actual size of the screen itself and the viewing distance makes a huge difference when choosing a new tv too. :)

Thanks for the Advice.I don't buy one everyday,so want to make the right decision. The viewing distance is 8-10 FT so a 42" seems the correct size.:)

I would go LCD too Doug, its about the same distance away as we sit from ours and when I looked the Plasma ones were far too bright and the images had like white outlines

You dont really need 1080p but if you can get it then yes get it but you normally pay MUCH more for it
as you have put 1920 by 1080 the last figure denotes the 1080 whether its I or P you can only notice depending on what you are playing and most consoles run at 720 and then in simple terms stretch (or in tech talk upscale) the image to 1080

I cannot give you the reasons that Dave can but I checked out the difference between the two visually and I would save my money. I could find no difference in quality between two of the same brand.

Perhaps if you are planning on a lot of Blue Ray it may. But at 42" (which is hardly small screen) I don't think you will be unhappy with the 720.
