    New tuners fitted.

Then it came to fitting the new 'Nuts' ..... not so good.
Nuts are meant to fit square to the end of the fretboard.
As you can see, both ends are not square so I'll have to file the fretboard ends square before the nuts can be fitted.

Who ever set this guitar up originally needs keeping away from guitars.

    Just about finished.

    20190113_203010.jpg

    Jobs done today.....
    Fit new nuts
    Restring both necks
    Set Neck relief and Action.
Fit new Tone & Volume controls.

    20190113_204220.jpg

    20190113_202822.jpg

Couldn't get the 12 string neck less than a 2mm action, so the neck had to come off and be shimmed.
Now it's set at my preferred setting of 1.5mm

    Still to do....
    Set intonation
    Make and fit second scratchplate.
    refit truss rod covers.

Finally decided to get this finished.
Couldn't get the second scratchplate made at work as too busy, so the only option left was to make it by hand.
So a fret saw and a few files later..... it's all done.

Yes, I've seen that a few times now.
Oddly enough..... Don Felder wrote the song but could never sing it.
He wrote it in the key of Bm .... when he sings it now he drops it down to Am so that it's in his voice range. ( capo moved down to 5th fret )
That's why it doesn't quite have the jangle that the original had.
A double neck is a terrible guitar to play..... it's so out of balance ( very neck heavy ).

I thought perhaps it was just his age in this video.

Picked up a 3rd-hand used Squire Strat today. I'm told (via the Strat-Talk.com forum) that it's an SE model.
The tuners are a bit sloppy. The action could be better. The volume and tone controls are tighter than I prefer. It was cheap so I can live with needing some work.
When this covid thing settles down, I'll have to get with Clair (IJAC). He's been practicing on the bass.

    All easy fixes.
Squires are easy guitars to mod...... first thing I do is change the tuners anyway.
New tuners and new pots..... about $40.
Pity you don't live closer... I've got loads of strat spares.

I either buy Wilkinson or Vanson tuners.
Not sure if Vanson are available over there though.

Doing a quick search - I found the Wilkinsons are available here on Amazon. The Vansons are available on other sites and are shipped to the USA.

They are roughly the same price, so doesn't matter which you buy.
They tend to be either 15:1 or 19:1 ratio ...... 19:1 is meant give you more precise tuning and may stay in tune better. ( although, I've fitted both and haven't really found any difference)
Both are good quality without breaking the bank.
Locking tuners will obviously cost more... I have one set of locking tuners and too be honest I find them a bit of a pain.
