With Christmas fast approaching and with laptops and PCs on everyones mind with windows7 being so new, I thought it may be a good idea to post any really special deals or promotions that our members may come across over the next few weeks.

Lets please have some rules though. We all get our flyers and ads in the mail with all sorts of prices. What I am looking for are reasons why a particular deal is a "deal". I am also aware that this could become an outlet for spam.

So if you are going to post a deal tell us why. For example personal knowledge of a prior price or something about the machine that makes the price a good one. (great graphics card, cpu etc.)

Also, if you run into a deal but are not sure, you can post the specs here and ask for advice. We are going to be particularly careful about first posts from new members. (Sorry about that but I am sure you will understand why.)

Just one last note of caution, if this turns out badly posts or the entire thread may be removed.

Please be aware of geography and if a deal is strictly American or British (or Australian or Indian etc.) please make a note of that.

Finally, links to websites standing alone and without reference to any particular offer will simply be removed.

I had not intended this for software but since there has been no takers anyway I thought I would mention this.

Staples (and I think Best Buy) is offering MS Office Home and Student for $69.99 supposedly only for this weekend. It has 3 licenses and contains, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and One Note (whatever that is since I have had it before and never bothered with it.) MS is offering the same thing on line for $10.00 more pus some other nonsense that they are pushing for another $9.00 and making it seem like you need it.

I have seen it before in stores for around $150.00. Staples claims the offer ends today.

I decided to go with it for a few reasons.
    1. I have a trial but do not want to have to spend a lot more in 60 days. If it is still available at a low price then nothing much gained but nothing really lost either.
    2. There have been a number of security updates and a service pack added since the trial version was preinstalled and these are not available with the trial.
    3. I read a note somewhere that documents created in the trial version may not convert when emailed if the recipient is using an older version of Office.
