Not sure if any of you British people here saw this story, but in a way it did make me laugh...

Christmas card 'ginger' joke fury | The Sun |News

If anything, her kids will get even more ridiculed as she has just plastered them all over the news, over a 'ginger' joke! How is that not going to encourage the other kids in school to poke fun at them?

I am not sure how anyone could think that card would not be offensive. But, yep, I think this time the cure is worse than the disease.:yikes:

My Ex-Wfes Ginger, and I am predudice against all people that are unfortunatly Ginger, and I just hope that medical science advances to a point where it can cure the condition

and if you are Ginger and find this offencive, tuff its your problem, and don't bring your I'm ginger and special attitude here, your temper is no worse than anyone else's, and if you havn't got over the bullying and being picked on over your hair colour as you grew up, go get profesional help.

I don't take offense over being called lanky, Bald, skiny, or other phrases that I can't post here.

I quite agree that a person with red hair doesn't have a worse temper than anyone with different coloured hair :).

How odd that the store didn't think of how 'ginger' haired children would feel seeing the ad ... but a swift kick in the butt to the Ad agency and coal in the stocking to the store manager that approved it.

Actually, until I read this Thread, it hadn't occurred to me that being teased for having red hair was 'so serious' - gentle grin. I survived it as have zillions of others and sadly, your wish is apparently going to come true, Match:). According to some medical studies, there are fewer and fewer red heads born each year and within a decade may simply cease to exist.

Sorry Mara nothing personal but I am sick of this political correctness crap.

It's not discrimination it's humour, in bad taste agreed, and all she is, is some retarded overweight person hoping to make a fast buck before Christmas, its about time people like her who claim discrimination over the slightest thing trying to make a few Quid by selling there story to the press were told to shut the f up and go away.

if she was so concerned about Ginger haired people being discriminated against, then why isn't she raising the question about how many poor innocent ginger haired school children get beaten up or bullied just because of their hair colour.

Don't worry, I'm not offended in the least - my hair colour is simply like my eye colour - a colour and not important one way or the other:).

Now ...the lady described as "some retarded overweight person" - eep! Gotta be careful here or Santa may just fly by long enough to drop 'droppings' down your chimney - huge grin!

In all seriousness, although I'm sure the lady thought she was protecting her children, their interest may have been better served by simply telling the store manager how she felt about the ad ... and then letting it go. Life is full of humps and bumps and while it's natural to want to protect our kids, it's perhaps better to save one's energy for the 'big stuff' in life as it will surely come.

It is only recently, as in perhaps the last year of my now 61 of them that I became aware that in some parts of this country and even the world, that there is some dislike, discrimination, or even hate of people with any sort of red or ginger tint to their hair.
Perhaps because there does seem to be an equal amount of all colour of hair distributed around Lancashire, that there hasn't been any discrimination against that colour, at least not locally. Even the idea of the so called dumb blonde is a media manufactured thing, rather than regarded as a fact.
However it becomes obvious that at least the dislike of red or ginger hair exists when a Christmas card, rather disgustingly, shows it to be so in the very wording of it.
Rather than discrimination against it, it is more the other way round as red heads are regarded as sexy round here, something I tend to agree with, and would love to have a red or ginger haired girlfriend. Shame you are so far away JB.

Sorry but this card did give me a laugh at first even if the card was in bad taste, see I couldn't careless what names someone could call me I got it enough at school with a sort of bullying so crude humour doesn't bother me that much, neither would I be offended by that card if I had red hair, it is as Match said political correctness and some woman wanting to make some quick money by selling the story in this case to the most gullible newspaper in this country, which is full of nothing but s, Only reason they sell so many copies of it is because of most specifically page 3, I do wonder whether most people buy it just for that page.

But yeah as Mara and DSTM know I usually mention/complain about the lack of common sense on this planet now yes this might be the right decision for this card to be removed but like Match I get fed up of this political correctness rubbish and health and safety stuff, my Dad has told me all sorts about the forms he has to fill in for health and safety which more than doubles the time he has to work on organising work projects, yeah guaranteed he has to fill some health and safety stuff in, it's on the railways but he says some of it is irrelevant to what they are doing.

I'll not go into specifics of political correctness because I just get myself riled up it is just pure stupidity bending over backwards to try and not offend anyone. I could go on forever about stories but it just does my head in so don't even bother trying anymore.

I think this thread has run its course and it is time for it to just fade away.
