I am still confused about one thing - I have read that my phones A463BG are 4G and and support 4G and I should not need new phones. But only to top the one off before 3-4--2022 .

"This phone use GSM network and support 4G connectivity on AT&T GSM network.
Then you don't need new phones because it supports 4G.
Just be sure to top up the one phone by March 4th."

Tracfone is so interested in upgrading my phones which it calls "free uprade" that I am not sure they would tell me whether or not my phones will still work. Yet if I do not upgrade and they quit then I would lose all the minutes and the phones.. But one phone is good until January 2023 while the one must be topped off by 3-4-22 or will lose the minutes if not stop before or I do not upgrade.
I am not sure if I should rush to upgrade maybe needlessly or keep them both and add minutes to the one with sooner end of service. If I am wrong and keep them then I will lost the minutes, the upgrade, and still have to get some other phone if I want one. It looks to me from what I am told and have read that the phones should both still work if I add minutes before the end of service and I am unsure if I can trust Tracfone to tell me the truth because they want to scare me into upgrading.
Do you thnk I should keep the phones and wait and see and add to the sooner-wxpiring phone, or simply upgrade anyway? Any suggestions?
I do not even know what a free upgrade really means.
Since I have not even discusse dthis with Tracfone because the connection to sales failed I never talked with them. Maybe I should call tomorrow and discuss it. See what they say. Open to suggestions. Tough decision.

Decision: I have decided to follow Plodr's advice and keep the phones, forget the upgradee. All I have read say the 4G phones are what I have and they should not quit. Even if they do, I have not used them in over two years and have already paid for the minutes on them. Since have lots of minutes and $19.99 is cheap and affordable and I do have 3X phones I will get a $19.99 or cheap as I can phone card before the service end date. Seems like the best choice I can make. I believe the added minutes were not theft or abuse but probably an unintended error in the first place because I DID actually get the minutes. Which is why there is no record of an autofill account as I was told by 3 different reps.

I tried a No Contract Basic Phone Card $19.99 from WalMart. It would not work but took me to message page offering to sell me various phons at a discount. Have not phoned Tracfone yet for thought my phones were 4G. What next?

Guess the phones will quit. Best chance is to maybe get some free phone options. Suspect they may begin requiring contract plans now instead of no contract. Selling minutes may not be all that profitable. Anywway if I stay with Tracfone I may be able to use the minutes card and all the other minutes I have.. Late afternoon definitely the wrong time to call. Maybe there is another number to call to get the phones department?

I have since read that Tracfone wireless networks and not the general networks update will upgrade and therefore all Tracfones will stop working on Feb 22. This means everyone will have to get an upgraded phone. I called today to inquire if any charges associated with the "FREE UPGRADE RECONDITIONED PHONES"they are after me to upgrade. If I turn phone on to call someone they break right in, stop my call, and try to get me to upgrade with a message. I called to inquire and asked 3-4 times if any charge associaated with the free phones and she ignored me and finally told me they are all sold out and not available. I think thos company is one big ripoff. Sell you cheap or not cheap phones so they can sell you minutes and I was told minutes are not on the phone but on your account. I called my brother tonight and they broke in on the call and when I hung up it said I had 2 failed calls. I am done with Tracfone. Never give them a credit card. They use it to load you up with minutes then upgrade the network and everyone's phone stops so they have to hopefully buy another phone. And maybe minutes also. What a racket! Likely everyone's phone will stop working on Feb 22.

    That is NOT TRUE.
I just added minutes to my husband's Tracfone and he is good through June 6th.
An internet friend and his wife use Tracfone and both their phones are good through next year.

Only phones that operate on 3G will stop working and that is NOT all Tracfones.

Guess I will find out by Feb 23 2022. Have no proof. I I keep getting these messages saying it will end on 2-22-22 and I must act fast to get free phones which they say on phone are not available. My phones are 4G as far a I know. I am not disputing anyone....only giving my ideas and opinions. Thinking of trying Verizon Dumb Phones.

T-Mobile will shut down the Sprint network 3G on March 31st and its own 3G network on July 1st and Verizon will shut down 3G on December 31st.

Phones have not stopped yet but still getting messages that they will stop this month when all the networks shut down. Still offers for free phone upgrades ASAP even though I was told by support they are not available..

I am still getting messaging that says I must act NOW to get the FREE Volte phones that I was told are not available by a customer service person. And it keeps extnding the time of stopping. Ow it is the end ofthe month. Before it was 2-21-22 and 2-22-22. If I make a call they interrupt it before letting it go through to give me a scare message that my phones will stop. Every time I turn it on it says a number of missed calls. I test it by dialing my home phone now and then. So far as I know my phones are 4G and I do not expect them to stop from what I have read.

You can not tell by doing that! A phone can use your home's wifi network to make and receive calls. So you might be dialing using wifi and not cell data.

The fact that they keep telling you that your phone will stop working, leads me to believe that you do not have a 4G phone but rather a 3G phone.

All 3G networks are not shutting down this month. Since Tracfone uses 3 different networks; AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, the dates at which Tracfone 3G phones stop working will vary.

    February 22nd: AT&T shuts off 3G
March 31st: T-Mobile shuts off the Sprint 3G network it acquired
July 1st: T-Mobile shuts off its own 3G network
    December 31st: Verizon off 3G

So depending on which service the Tracfone phone uses, a 3G Tracfone phone may be able to be used until Feb 21st, Mar 30th , June 30th or Dec 30th.

After December 31st, no 3G phone will be able to be used for 911 calls.

I think it is best just to wait and see. I plan to explore Verizon if need new, and IS there a way to test the phones? They still are receiving messaging from Tracfone and Tracfone still interrupting or threatening to interrupt outgoing calls to try to get me to upgrade to VOLTe free phones which their customer servive said is no longer available. Whole thing makes no sense to me. I thought I read that Tracfone uses its OWN networks? My owner manual says the 463BG phone is a 4G. I have no way of knowing if it is or isn't. Maybe I should make a long distance call to my brother and see what happens. But I still would not know what network is being used. Puzzling. I would like to know a correct method of testing if any exist, other than just wait.

Turn off wifi, then try and make a phone call.
I can only find a model A463BG[/b] so I can't guarantee that is your phone.
The manual is here for the A463BG model.

Your phone might be 4G but if it is a non-VoLTE model, it will stop working.

No idea at all how to tell if my phones are 4G, 3G, or VoLTE except wait until they quit. I think I am done with Tracfone though- if I need or want a phone I will go shopping at a reputable maker.

Tracfone doesn't make phones. They offer models made by other companies. (Alcatel, LG, moto/motorola, Samsung, Nokia, TCL, and iPhones)
Tracfone is a reputable company. I use them and I know quite a few people who also use Tracfone. Some use an android phone and some use an iPhone.

You can change providers BUT, you will overpay for monthly usage and probably overpay for a new phone. You'll also lose all the minutes you have accumulated on your two phones.
