Tracfone doesn't "load you up with minutes". What would be the point?
All your unused minutes are rolled over.

You need to read this to understand why your phone is expiring.
    https://tracfonereviewer.blogspot.com/2019/05/tracfone-closing-3g-cdma-network-phones.html

Tracfone is not the only company that has phones expiring. I had to purchase a new flip phone for my husband because the old flip phone (VirginMobile now Boost) he is using will stop working sometime in 2022. It was supposed to be January 1st but I think it is now pushed back until sometime in March. Right now, he has 2 working flip phones from two different cell providers.
I guess we should start calling people out of our local calling area to use up some of the money.

In post #4 I did mention that Tracfone was updating the networks which is why some older phones wouldn't work.
However, the link plodr provided has a much better explanation.

I do not even pretend to understand all this. Only to get out of it. I just viewed my new card statement which had some after closing charges from the replaced canceled card. No phone charges though. I have to use the new card now but wanted to wait until I saw a statement. I have never in all my years of credit cards had a problem with theft or misuse but have always believed that getting a new card and cancelling the old was a good cure. I hope it works now. I plan not to call anyone but to watch the statements carefully as I use the new card and dispute any unwanted suspicious charges. I like the phones but my wife does not and will likely get another brand. I do not really need one as before. But will likely keep the one I have as long as t works. I originally mistook the whole situation as I tried to explain. Now will just watch and wait. I cannot expect anything to work or last forever. Just hoping for relief and to return to normal. Seems OK so far. Thanks for the advice and information. I shall read all the above over again.

I keep checking the minutes on both phones and they remain the same. But the buttons on the bottom of screen have stopped working. And streaming messsage at top offers me free upgrade before it stops working. The website it gives says site can't be reached. It is https://mytf.co/Obsc. Think I will just let it quit and get rid of it. Haven't used it in a long time.
Will these phones just quit working soon? Not even sure I want them anymore.
I rechecked and I had left the .co from the mytf. Will try it again now that I see error. Still not work. Will check it again.

That is because there is no longer a site my-tf.com

    The correct address is: https://www.tracfone.com/createaclogin
you either login or create an account to login to be able to see when the minutes expire and how many minutes are on each tracfone device.

I have to decide if I want to trust Tracfone and if I want to continue with Tracfone or get some other brand. So far I have found no abuses. Maybe I will log in. I already have a login. I do nt know why the address I gave was on my message but the one you listed works.

Tracfone is not a brand. It is a MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) cell provider which uses 3 different networks AT&T, Verizon or T Mobile depending on what phone is purchased.

    https://bestmvno.com/mvnos/tracfone/

Tracfone uses the towers of the 3 major companies in the US; it doesn't own its own towers.

Some other MVNOs are cell providers like Cricket, Boost, Consumer Cellular, Google Fi, Great Call, Metro, Mint, Net10, Total Wireless.
People select an MVNO because prices are cheaper than the big 3: AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.

I used VirginMobile an MVNO until it was forced out of business and I was moved to Sprint. Sprint was then acquired by T-Mobile and I was pushed to Boost. Boost was then purchased by DISH!!! When I get a new phone, it will not be under Boost.

If all you basically do is talk and not use the internet on a phone then I suggest you go with either a Jitterbug or Consumer Cellular (talk only).

You seem to know a lot more than I do about this sort of thing. I tried te Tracfones from Walmart about 5 years ago. Got tired of going to Walmart and letting the clerk call and buy minutes for me then I paid at Walmart. Found it easier to just order by pnone from home instead of drivinng to Walmart and hang around while he did it for me. I never realized I could purchase a minutes card like you said. My wife I believe does not even know how to use the tracfone and will probably want a simpler phone to carry around. I was going to see if I could find out what phones would be easy to use and inexpensive. No text, photos, or fancy stuff. Just talk like on the land line. I likely do not even need a separate phone and the minutes are already paid for and I see no reason to upgrade a Tracfone for free or $40+ dollars just to use minutes. I have a lot of thinking and decision making to do before I take any action. I do not even know if Tracfone minutes are any cheaper than Verizon long distand minutes to North Carolina any way. It was just easier to use the Tracfone rather than tie up the house line for extendied calls. Now I have 2 phones getting ready to expire in a month and a year I believe (did not check it recently) and over 4000 minutes and do notknow what to do.

I do not know why I would get a messaging messsage on my Tracfone with an obsolete website. I have cancelled the old credit card and gotten a new one. ShouldI go ahead and use the minutes now on the phone that have been put there and paid for?

The website worked when the phone was new, 5 years ago. tracfone has since changed the way it does things. If you got a message that your phone will soon not be working, then the time to use those minutes is ending unless you get a new tracfone.

    Sure, use the phone minutes.

If you decide that you will not be sticking with tracfone as a cell provider, you will lose the minutes you've paid for. If you stick with tracfone, the unused minutes will roll over.

Do you suggest I just get a new tracfone when or if mine stops working? Since I can find no proof of any wrongdoing. I have more minutes than I will ever use even though they re paid for and I guess I can only use them on Tracfones. My wife does not like the complexiity of Tracfone and would prefer a phone that is simple to call with. Though I have not the need of it now I do know how to use it and I would probably just buy another maybe at Walmart if mine quit. Maybe if I did that the minutes would transfer.

    Hi Bill,
Yes, if you get a new tracfone, you can transfer your minutes over.

You should get a new tracfone before yours quits working. You have a limited time and I don't know how long that is to be considered having an existing tracfone account. If the phone stops working, you lose the number and the minutes within a set time period.

I have an internet friend who has been a tracfone user for years. (2 devices one for him and another for his wife, different models) He buys a 365 day card at Walmart, gets home and applies it to his phone, using the Tracfone website. Well a few weeks ago, Walmart had a problem with his purchases and somehow nothing was showing up. As a result, when he got home, the website would not accept the card because it said it hadn't been activated. He called Walmart and discovered the problem. Since Walmart is 40 miles away, he doesn't drive there on a whim. He was afraid he'd lose the phone number and minutes so he went to some Dollar chain store and bought a 30 day card so he could keep his account with Tracfone.
The next time he went to Walmart, they had an activated 365 day card waiting at Customer Service for him to replace the one that did not work.

UPDATE : I have 2 tracfones A463BG. I use one and m wife uses other. The online minutes balance ste says my phone service end date is 3-4-22 and the other is 1-22-23. Mine has 2023 minutes and the other has 2586 minutes. How urgent is any action? May try actually using some minutes.

Plodr- I thank you very much for all your helpful info and advice. You know much more than I about this. I trust you far more than I do Tracfone right now if only because you did not sell me 4500 minutes, put them on my phones, and charge me for them. I still believe it was some sort of promotional tactic to sell phones instead of a theft of money as I originally thought. I have no big need of phones right now but I would like to be able to keep them if I could instead of buying more. And I have more minutes than I ever did. They have not stopped working yet and I have seen no signs of abuse since I cancelled credit card. Company investigated for fraud but found nothing. I will look at above site and see but my phones ARE a463bg type. Just too much to deal with right now.

If it works out I would like to keep the phones I had. I also like the idea of purchasing a minutes card. Instead of calling on phone and ordering and giving out credit card number for minutes .. What card would I look for or would clerk suggest one? Never did this before but it sounds like a good idea. I am close to a WalMart store. Maybe I could explore phone minutes cards on internet? I would guess you have to purchase minuutes before end of service date eve if you have more than you need. I could maybe purchase a small amount of minutes?

Now that I see I may not HAVE to discard the phones and buy new ones, is there a way to find out the maximum number of minutes each phone can hold? I believe I will try to keep the phones but I guess when service ends I must add some minutes. I prefer to do this by buying a minutes card as this may be the safest way I have become aware of. Am tryin to plan what to do. I only used to get around 100 minutes at a ime which would be 100 x 3X minutes. I have not really used the phones in a few years.

Service end dates are based on calendar times, not minutes unless you run out which you are unlikely to do. So you have to add more minutes to the phone that ends 3-4-22. The other phone is good until sometime in January 2023.

If your phones are 4G, then you do not have to replace them. Find out if there are 4G capable. My phone is 5 years old and is 4G so it doesn't need replacing. Since you said your phone is about 5 years old, it is probably 4G too BUT I don't want to assume it is. Find out from Customer service.

I buy the cards at Walmart and Target. This is what I get.
    tf_card.jpg

At Walmart they are on display above the Tracfones for sale. If you get a 90 day card, you have to remember to add minutes every 90 days. If that is too much of a hassle, get a 365 day card.
    tf_card2.jpg
Then you only have to remember to do it once a year. I write the date on the large calendar by our wall phone so I remember to add minutes.

You pick a card, take it to a cashier and the cashier activates the card. When you get home, turn the phone on, go to the Tracfone website and Refill Airtime service. You'll have to put in the code you scratch off on the back of the card.
