CD+R or CD-R

Discussion in 'Microsoft Windows' started by letterman@invalid.com, Apr 2, 2009.

  1. I noticed the stores sell both CD+R and CD-R.
    What's the difference?

I noticed the DVDs are the same.....

Of course the Walmart clerk did not know the difference and told me
either will work, which I am sure is not true, or they would not make
    both types.

There is no such thing as CD+. See section 2-48 in...
    http://www.cdrfaq.org/

CD-R versus CD-RW, ROM, etc. See section 1-1, same URL

    Yes, Google will explain all.

As dadiOH said, there's no such thing for CDs. I suspect you're
talking about DVD+R and DVD-R. Those are two incompatible (of course)
standards for recordable DVDs. Nearly any burner nowadays will work
with both kind of disks, so it doesn't matter much which you buy.

    Start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD+R
Notice the bar on the right side of the page, which will take you to
articles about DVD-R and about a zillion other related topics.

Agree there is really no such beast. But long ago I purchased a stack of
"CD+R" discs at a flea market. They were "Melody" brand 3.5" discs
with 380 MB capacity. Being so much over spec, I found that most drives
would refuse to use them. No matter, it was all for fun anyway.

I presume you meant 780 MB capacity, not 380 below. :)
