When i purchased NOD32 through the mail i also received a "CCleaner Professional" disc. I'm also aware that this disc has a registry cleaner & other programs that should not be used. Are there any programs on this disc that have practical applications for a windows os?

Personally I have never used it in any of its forms, however the general advice has always been that it can be useful for general cleaning of the system providing the registry section is not used, which you already know. However today's modern operating systems from even XP onwards, the normal Windows disk cleaner and defragmenter are nearly as good.

Ditto Nev's comments. The first time I used CCleaner's registry cleaner it took out the whole system. Granted the computer (Windows 98) was having problems at the time which is why I tried the registry cleaner. That was the first and only time I've used a registry cleaner. Subsequently, I've received a call from a customer who used CCleaner's registry cleaner. He could no longer print. Told him to reinstall his printer. That worked.

I do like CCleaner temp file cleaner.

Years ago I took out the whole system in XP however CCleaner has improved greatly over the years. I have CCleaner on all my OS's.

@N3 Like any program you need to learn all about the program and use what parts benefit you. I really like CCleaner
Go into Tools and Options and set the way it suits you and save all your log in cookies otherwise if you just run the cleaner you will lose them all.
Reg Cleaner is there for those who wish to use it. It does have a Reg back up option which is a must playing around in the registry.
Removing the orphaned entries in the registry will make ZIP difference to your computer's performance. Today's large HDD's can cope with huge amounts of orphaned Reg entries. Learn about CCleaner before hitting buttons and hoping for the best.
    Piriform make good products.

I run SSD's so can't Defrag . I run all Windows maintanence Tools incl Windows Disk cleanup.
I then run CCleaner and here is the result. CCleaner does find more Temp files than Windows from my experience.

No third party program knows your Registry like Windows so stay well away from the Registry Cleaner part of CCleaner.

I've used CC's reg cleaner without any issues, but I wouldn't recommend the average user to run it. I like CC as I can save my cookies hence my passwords to the exclude list.
