Why are the Security Updates for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB??????)
categorised as Important when I do not have Office 2007 installed?

You probably have the Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint viewers installed.

Or there are files related to Office 2k7 that came installed with Vista
present in one or more of the Program Files\Common Files\ subfolders.

IF there are *any* issues related to such updates, MS offers *no-charge*
support for them. From *each* KB article for Security updates for Office:
