My computer has been acting weird lately. I use the Zune marketplace and Playon for my PS3 and whenever I try to sign in or use the programs they say that they cannot connect to the server or the bandwidth is low even though I'm getting 3mps. Even when I try to download templates for Microsoft word within the program, or go to the itunes store from within itunes. I've tried all of the troubleshooting that various tech support people have walked me through like allowing the programs on my AVG, disabling my firewall, etc and even getting rid of it completely but no luck. I can use the internet just fine and play online just fine too, and have run all the virus, spyware, and malware programs I have and like normal everything comes out clean. My computer did do something weird the other day though, it wouldn't get on the internet but then I got rid of my proxy and it was fine again but my programs still don't work. I've also called my ISP and there's nothing wrong with the line but whenever I use AT&T's self support tool it says that there is a problem with my connection even though it doesn't show it on their end. It also says that my line state, DSL state, and Ethernet status is down whatever that means. The weirdest part is that my wife's laptop does everything just fine.
I am running windows Vista 64 on an HP Pavilion m9340f.
    I also use a 2wire modem/router from AT&T
I am OK with computers but not great and would appreciate any help y'all can give,

    Thanks!

P.S. is there a good trustworthy program I can download to search for and fix problems like these that might help? I have Glary Utilities but that didn't work... Crying or Very sad

If I understand this correctly, you are attached to a modem thorugh an ethernet cable and your wife's laptop uses the same modem as a wireless router and hers is working fine. You can connect to the infernet and navigate around but cannot download any files of any kind is that correct?

You were on a proxy but have eliminated that? Tell us about the proxy please, and are you using any firewall? If so have you checked it's settings?

When you log on to this vista machine are you an administrator or a user. (Please excuse my total ignorance of vista as I skipped it. But I do believe that only an administrator can download files so this should be checked in your control panel under "users.")

What anti virus program are you using?

I'm using AVG. I'm not sure what the proxy thing was all about I just read online that disabling proxy's would fix my particular problem. I can surf and download just fine but I cannot connect to internet based functions within programs like itunes or zune marketplace within their respective applications. I've done everything I can do with the firewall too and still no luck.

I wouldn't feel so bad ask and you will probably be laughing for hours at the silly things the most experienced Techs have missed at times, that's one of the reasons I would never criticise any member for posting a solution they have tried or used with success, even if its as simple as turning the power on at the socket :snckr:

But the important thing is you have your PC working properly, Glad we could help :D
