This problem occurred suddenly this morning. I finished a session with my Gateway laptop computer but Windows kept on saying that an update was ready and that the computer needed to restart for the update to be in effect, which is what usually occurs every so often. So I turned the computer off. I came back a couple hours later, and I tried to click on my profile in the login screen to log me into my user profile. This message came up: “Windows cannot load locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile” followed by “Cannot find the local profile. Logging on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.” Then it logs me on to this completely different profile with none of my previous applications and none of my documents. I don’t know what’s wrong! What should I do?

About the only thing you can do is login as administrator, create a new profile and then copy all docs over to the new profile.

To do that this link should be helpful:
