Can't join W2K3 server to W2K domain after running adprep

Really frustrated, mainly since this is not my main job duty. Anyway, here
    goes:

Tiny w2k domain (one DC with sp/4) and needing to upgrade the forest/domain
to add a 2nd DC (w2k3 r2 sp/2). Have run adprep over the forest, the
domain, and the security settings on the group policy objects (/gpprep?).

Logged onto the w2k3 machine, run dcpromo, and it terminates stating that
the forest has not been upgraded yet. Have looked through the adprep logs
and nothing looks funny. The schema ver. is at 30 and the revision value of
the cn=windows2003update object is 9. I verified these settings through
ADSI Edit. Can anyone point me to the golden path of success???

    TIA

    Buzz

  2. Hello Buzz,

Did you run adprep from the second R2 disk also?

    Best regards

  3. Hello Buzz,

Where you running adprep /forestprep and /domainprep in the schema master
using the w2k3 r2 CD and an enterprise admin user account? Please post the
complete adprep log, if you don't mind doing so.

    Meinolf,

I've been googling around and eventually found KB 917385. So, what I did
was run adprep from the 1st CD instead of the adprep for R2. Now, my
question is, can I run the R2 adprep on top of the current schema changes?
Unfortunately, I've not got a good sys state backup to go back to so it's
    either move forward or else!

    Thanks, Buzz

    Issac,

You might see where I replied to Meinolf. In a word - I goofed and used the
wrong version of adprep. Was wondering if running it again (R2 version of
course) should get all the required schema changes in place.

If you still would like the logs, I'll send them.

    Thanks, Buzz.
