I can't seem to be able to installer the Hyper-V Manager on my Windows Vista
    Business x64 with SP2
I have enabled the RSATs and it is not one of the options.
so i have downloaded the patches from KBs 970203, 941314, 952627. I always
get this error: The update does not apply to your system

where can i get the Hyper-V manager? thanks

Not much information - "...The update does not apply to your system..."
statement infers you so not have a hyper-v server installed.

of course there is no hyper-v server installed on the vista system, but
there surely is on installed on a WIN2K8 server in the local network (not on
the domain though). I can RDP to it

as i mentioned below i am using Windows Vista Business x64 with service pack
    2
so it should work, but it isn't.
i am trying to understand why. is it because i am downloading the wrong
patch or is there a system configuration problem? or is it something else?

  12. Just an observation.

The download link is for x86 version.
IIRC the OP stated in the first post that he uses x64 Vista. So I guess an
    x64 version is needed here.

  13. The message you are seeing suggests you are trying to install the x86
    version on your x64 system.

    You need
    .

Note that there are separate x86 and x64 versions under the same
Microsoft KB numbers. The links at the end of the KB will point you to
the correct version if you land on the wrong one when there is a choice.

  14. Moshe Raab

    Moshe Raab Guest

    this was it!
i was able to install the hyper-v manage.

however, when i try to connect the the hyper-v server i get a message that i
don't have the required permission to complete the task. i need to contact
the admin of the authorization policy for the computer. I downloaded
HVRemote and tried to run that, but i think the problem is that the host is
in a workgroup and my Vista client is in a domain.
Now, how do i set up the authorizations?
again thanks for helping resolve the first part of the issue

  15. Glad you got it installed.

I am not familiar with Hyper-V so suggest you start at
    or ask in
one of the microsoft.public.windows.server groups m.p.w.s.setup or
m.p.w.s.general is the most likely to be helpful.

  16. Bill Grant

    Bill Grant Guest

Interesting. That seems to be later than the one I was looking at. I
installed it a while back on Vista Business to test it. I haven't updates it
because I didn't really like it. I administer Hyper-V by RDP into the
    server.

I wonder why Business fell off the list between versions.
