i use windows xp pro edition. i had encrypted a few word docs and now i
cannot access them as the prompt says that i do not have
privilege/access is denied! tho i am the administrator and have complete
right!!! then i noticed that there is a new account asp.net machine a..
and it is on limited access. does this hv anything to do with my files
    being inaccessible

the docs that i have encrypted are worth 4 yrs of my life - my film
scripts and so if i lose them i will probably die... so please somebody
out there help me.... do i delete the asp account?
is the prob due to the asp account?
or due to some other reasons?

have added everyone on each file... and have taken ownership as well...
but i cannot access the docs... when we do an efs where does the
recovery agent or cert get stored? i dont remember creating a recovery
agent earlier... is there a hack that can be applied...

    HELP!!!!! [IMG]

If you cannot access them and some change occurred on your system
(format/install, repair install, forcing a password change, etc) that has
caused the EFS certificate to become corrupted or be lost and you did not
follow the, "Best practices for the Encrypting File System"...

.... thus you did not 'export [your] certificates and private keys to
removable media and store the media securely when it is not in use', then
you may have a problem - one not inexpensively (or even at all) resolved.

Encryption is meant to protect your data. It would not be effective if
    there was an easy back-door.

As for the recover agent, you would remember - it is a manual process.

How to add an EFS recovery agent in Windows XP Professional

There may be hope in a third-party (and usually expensive) data recovery
business somewhere - but other than referring to the backups you should have
still been making - you may be out of luck.

Encryption protects your data from loss by digital theft/snooping - you did
have a fall-back plan for this data that was 'worth 4 yrs of [your] life -
[your] film scripts and so if [you] lose them [you] will probably die' in
case of a hardware failure/complete theft of the hardware itself - right?
