Cannot hide updates

I used to be able to hide those updates I was not interested in. Currently I
see no such option in Windows Update, although curiously I do see an option
to unhide the hidden ones. Where did my option for hiding updates go?

 

Within Vista Update, to hide an update...

1. Click View available updates
2. Right-click on the update you wish to hide
3. Click Hide Update
4. Confirm the UAC if needed

Windows XP
To hide an update, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click either Windows Update or Microsoft
Update.
2. Click Custom.
3. Click to clear the check box that is next to the update that you want to hide.
4. Expand the update that you want to hide, and then click the "Don't show this update
again" check box.
5. Click Review and install updates.

I had same problem as Jerry, several updates, after reinstalling Windows
XP Pro SP2. When I tried installing these updates, I got message
"following updates were not installed" Got rid of all except two using
TaurArian's procedure. These two keep coming back. If I disable my
internet connection, they do not come back until I re-enable my
connection. Apparently Microsoft keeps downloading these without
realizing that I do not want them. Have repeated everything
repeatedly, but they are persistent.

Why can't we ind the answer to this question on the Windows help????

Help seems to be written by a mentally handicapped, worse with each new
version. The search is the worst and most useless we can find in any program
and all over the Web. An example is precisely this "hide updates". If we type
the words on the help search field we gaet all sorts of answers, not the
least related to the question li:

anyone not thinking yjis is pure rubish? Help on Office is exactly as this.
By making us wasting out time, Microsoft is stealing our time on useless
searches, which is the same as steling our money.
