I had free version of AVG on my Win 7 64bit desktop.
I started having problems with it and decided I would rather have free version of Avast.

I could still see AVG in my programs list. I looked in the control panel at all the programs I had and AVG was there too. I highlighted it and clicked uninstall but a dialougue box comes up saying to waiting until the last program has finished uninstalling even though I was not uninstalling anything else. I have tried for several days now and get the same message.

I tried clicking on the AVG icon but nothing happens. It is a "dead" link. I thought as AVG was not working I could d/l Avast. That worked for a while but when I d/l the updates today that too was "dead" a message came up to say it was not working. So now I am left with no AV on my desktop. I am having to use my laptop at the moment as I dare not leave my desktop on with no working AV.

The AVG website has a special tool to remove the program. I found it absolutely the only way to really uninstall it. You could also google AVG removal.

Thank you Bill that worked a treat. I had tried several times to delete it. My PC seems to go much faster now too. I had d/l Avast and I know we should not have two AV's on PC as they conflict with each other. I deleted Avast when I was having probs but have now re-installed it and I am very happy with it.
Thank you so much for your quick response. Much appreaciated. Patricia.
