Hi all, really hoping you guys can shine some light and lead me out of this dark tunnel.
Basically I cannot get my desktop to connect to internet using wired connection.
Here are specifics and steps I have already taken. (Apologize now for length but been trying for a WHILE now)

    Specs:
    Intel Core 2 duo
    Asus P5n-E SLI mother board
    4gb Ram
    80gb SATA HD
    Windows 7
    NiC Card Realteck TRL8139

    Problem:
A few weeks ago could go online no problem, then a day later couldnt connect. (got no connectivity warning)
Figured it might have been an update that caused an issue, but first I reset modem (Verizon FIOS) and switched Cat5 cables and ports, no avail.
Tried a system restore... no good
Tried installing new drivers for NiC card... no good
Disabled NiC card (as it was onboard MB) and installed a new PCI one.. also no good
Tried ipconfig /release /renew recieved error, I did not have a valid IP address
Finally decided to just wipe computer since I wanted to go to 64bit Win7 anyways hoping a new install would help.
Got new OS loaded. Still no connection
I tried a static IP,... no good
I unchecked the TCP/IPv6 protocal (since I read on another forum that had been causing problems)
I reset the TCP/IPv4 back to automatic
I reset the WINSOCK and TCP/IP stack and still no connection
I do however now have a IP address, but still cannot connect to internet.

Any help or suggestions would be great, as I am on the verge of shooting this thing with a sh** gun :(

    Thanks all
    CJ

Is there any chance that you have entered your new IP address manually and got it wrong? Just hitting the basics first. :)

Anything is possible. But I did reset it and set it to assign it automatically, so the IP address now isnt the one that I assigned. Should I try reassigning it myself?

I would. Have you actually spoken to the ISP regarding the assigned address.

Are you using a modem or a router?

Does it give you a make and model number?

Either way - I suspect that the "modem" is at fault.
    They don't last forever.

Did you try unplugging the "modem" for 30secs then re-connecting the power?

I have a Modem/wireless router From verizon (running Fios). And this has been on two different Fios spots. First at my fathers then at my house. Both of us have fios and the same type of router. I have reset both his and my router. Other computers both wireless and hardlined in to our routers still work just fine. Its just the one desktop not working. No I havent contacted my ISP because like I said, it did it at two different locations. But I will call and ask them if its something on there end. But Im having a hard time thinking that when I have a total of 8 different computers running Win7, Vista and XP and they all connect just fine at both places.
Not sure if Im making any sense, but will check with ISP. Dont hurt right? Also I will try again and creating a static IP
Thanks again for the input all :)

Wonder is it necessary to reinstall the MOBO chipset/Ethernet drivers on that one computer that's acting up.

I just thought about that right before I read your post. Heres the funny thing. I downloaded the chipset drivers from Asus (they dont have a 7 so was going to try Vista 64bit) so I restart my computer, go into the BIOS to reenable my onboard LAN card (the original one that didnt work) since I was going to reload drivers. Never got that far, as it booted up and before I could install drivers, low and behold it connects to internet with the OLD onboard NiC card?!?!?!

I'm at a complete loss as to why it connects now, but it does. Hopefully it stays good. Thanks again all for the advice!

It must have heard the threat of the shotgun, ha ha.
Sometimes crazy things can happen like this with no real reason. Keep an eye on things and let's hope all stays well for you.

Hi Kain.Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
Please start your own thread with your issue. Thanks.
We need a lot more information than what you have provided.

    Computer make and model?
    Connected wired or wireless?
When did this start and what have you done thus far to remedy the issues?
What changes recently have you made to the hardware?
