I am just curious if it is possible to network two computers together over the internet.I mean can one of them be set as a server and the other one access programs on that computer? For example if I had some microsoft office documents that I wanted to be able to be accessed from a computer in another location is that possible?

Hi Charlied1. Remote access is possible with a program called Teamviewer. (Free)

Set up "unattended access", you have full control of your own Computer say at home from another Computer located anywhere.

As long as Teamviewer is installed on both of course.

One thing that I have found is that if you carefully install "Team Viewer" making certain that you are clear that it is being used for private home use you get a number of features that are only available in LogMeIn for a price. Saying that they are both fine programs and I have no means of comparison since I went the "Team Viewer" way.

Remote access hasn't enough Bells and Whistles.

    That's why I have a third Party Program. :)

I wanted something that I could access almost like if it were on the same network......like an office in two different locations that use a software to keep up with inventory and things like that.Is there a way that both offices could basiclly share the program over the internet

I think what you are trying to accomplish is akin to a more sophisticated IT setup.

Consider our forum. We all see basically the same thing and when something is added we can all see it. This is controlled by specific software on a specific server. We are in effect sharing the same software and all working off the same server. We are not, however, networked together. So when I type this it goes to the server and is distributed to all those who are viewing this site. The level of access to the site is determined by settings on the software in the server. You simply cannot accomplish that with just 2 PCs without one being used as a server and even then it will only work with software designed for that purpose.

What has been suggested to you are programs that will allow you to log on to a computer and basically access it as if you were there. If you want to make a change in the "home" computer you can do so. That will not, however make the same change in the computer that you are using.

I hope that helps. I know there are programs that allow you to Sync computers on a network but that is just something that I have never used. That kind of program will not give you remote access but I assume they can be used in conjunction with each other. I don't know if anything I said makes sense but I tried. :snckr:

Give TeamViewer a try as DSTM suggested. It won't cost you anything and may get you where you want to go.
