BSOD. Now computer won't start

So i was playing games on my laptop, all of a sudden the screen went black with lines all over it (forgot the word for it), then it went completely black. Followed by a BSOD.

It then restarted and came up with.

No operating system found, please install one.

....

so i held the power button and then started it back up again, then it brought me to the "start windows normally" or "repair system". but no matter which option i choose the screen either just goes grey and stops (for repair), but when i chose start windows normally it brings up the windows logo but then just stops at that.

How do i fix this? please don't tell me it's rooted, because its not even 10 months old :/

Could you please give us the exact make and model of your Laptop.

Question: Can you start your computer in Safe Mode?

Tap F8 on boot to get the Advanced Startup Options menu.

 

I tired safe mode last night and it just sat there saying "loading please wait"

i have a Pavilion g6-1311AX


Edit: i have found my brothers Windows 7 DVD, shall i try putting that in and repairing it?

 

I'm pretty sure that your laptop has a recovery partition. This can be reached by pressing F11 when booting up. You should see the option to hit F11 on the screen after starting the computer.

When the option presents itself...Select "Recovery Manager" from your list of recovery options and press "Enter".

If the laptop is still under warranty, you could maybe return it to the store for repair.

Whatever you decide to do...I would suggest backing up your personal data/Documents/Pics. You will need to remove the HDD from the laptop, and place it into an external caddy/enclosure.

 

i tired the recovery manager thing, but when i press f11 it says "recovery manager" down the bottom, then it comes up with loading system files.. then it freezes on starting windows.

 

Can you pull the RAM out, and then reseat it.

 

so i chucked in the windows 7 dvd and changed the bios to boot from cd, and i click on it and then it just freezes on the windows logo..

ahh man :/ everything i try just seems to get stuck at the same point.

I'm not sure, but look for a panel on the underside of the laptop that is a little bigger than a credit card. It may have 1 or 2 small screws holding it. Be gentle when removing the ram.

 

also just adding this: when i was trying to get into BIOS (i wasnt sure what key it was so i tried about 4 of the F keys), my computer made very loud beeping sounds

 

Hi just to reassure you on the beeps, this happens if you hit the F key too early, my now old and sold Toshiba laptop would do the same.
Considering the laptop should still be under warranty, and if it is a hard drive failure, I suggest that you return it for repair.

However if you can't return it or wish to try fixing yourself and bearing in mind invasive stuff as is described below may rescind your warranty.

As well as checking the RAM, and as PSE Frank said there should be a small cover underneath to access that, Franks other and earlier suggestion of removing the hard drive and then connecting to a working computer, which you can do with a suitable USB adapter or enclosure.

Once connected to another computer, that will tell us all if the hard drive itself has died, which is one of the options with the fault you describe.

The hard drive is usually accessed again by a cover but on the underside edge of the laptop, once the cover is removed the drive slides out.
Please disconnect from the power supply and also remove the battery before removing those covers.

I will wait for my brother to get home from work before i attempt to take anything out of my laptop (he is a systems administrator)

i am running some start up tests under system diagnostics (f2 key), and it failed saying

memory testassed
smart check: passed
short DST : FAILED

^^Idk if that means anything to you geniuses but yeah

 

short DST: Failed Normally means your Hard Drive is failing/failed and will almost certainly need to be replaced.
As advised try and get your personal Data off the way suggested.
Then RMA it back to the manufacturer as it's still under warranty.
Get in touch with the manufacturer and they will give you an RMA number.

 

It's alright, i don't really have anything important on it anyway and it was needing a cleanout.

I'm hoping warrenty for laptops is 1 year? because that'd be amazing

 

All HP laptops have a minimum 1 year warranty so your in luck.
I initially thought as PSEFrank suggested it could have been something as simple as Ram.
Your tests now indicate it's much more serious.
Let us know how you get on with HP as I have a HP laptop.
