I has FiOS WIreless internet installed yesterday. That went well. 2 laptops and one desktop. One laptop and desktop are hardwired to router and work fine (XP). The Windows 7 laptop wireless worked fine then suddenly stopped being connected to internet and would not work with ethernet or wireless. Properties say "network security settings saved on this PC do not match network requirements". I do not understand all these settings (the tech installer set them up), if I try to call Verizon must go through all sorts of customer-unfriendly IVR, hard to understand English speaking people, get transferred all oover because they dont understand me or I dont understand their word for what department I need, until finally get frustrated and tired of being polite and just hang up. Which gets me nowhere. WHat I need is to get past all this securiy, protection and gibberish to a clear Enhlish-speaking live person who I can tell the trouble and can send someone out to reset the computer. Verizon has so many numbers, departments, required information - name state, account number, cell number, email address, type of equipment, residential, wireless, business, etc that I cant get anywhere. And the main issue, does anyone know how to stop this computer from blocking content of almost every webpage I go to? I can click display, but how to turn this off? I believe there is less danger from blocked content than getting done what I want without blocking. Where is security setting that will change this?
And how to fix the network security settings or get someone out here that will do it?

On a good note, the installation went well and the service is good. Downloaded 20 MB in 20 seconds instead of an hour or so.
And what DOES work works well. A bit of trouble with WIndows Live Mail account but I am happy with what works.
Can anyone give me info on this blocked content or network security setting which network properties says is the problem?

The Verizon FIOS number I use is (800) 837-4966. I really don't have a problem with their support (yes - it could be better). Since your Internet connection was setup just yesterday, I'd call the support number. Press whatever option there is for Internet.

Also check to see if your problem exists with other browsers. For example, have you tried accessing your problem site with Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox. Do they all block the content?

Do you have some kind of content blocking software installed, i.e. Ad-Muncher?

OK-After a frantic morning and all yesterday with FiOS and MRI this afternoon, my problem was solved in about 10 minutes once I got a person who I could understand and he could understand me. Actually I am not against security and protection within reason, but why do common sites have so much unacceptable stuff that needs constant blocking? Anyway I can just click and accept, which probably defeats the purpose of blocking anyway. Or just do without.
But the isuue was an extra network called OverdrivePro91E which I must have created myself by accident or something I downloaded or did created it. All I had to do was remove the network, remove original, original detected and reinstalled itself and all is well. Tech said to get through the phone and department confusion I should choose "Repair" and FiOS. Simple enough if you know it.
And another first. In midst of this confusion I received a call the ID said was from COLFAX. It was a recorded message saying the IRS was filing suit on me and I should call a number. I was expecting a call and thought this might be it and I answered. Got a foreign accent person that said "hello, hello, hello, hello, I cannot hear you...call back". I hung up and figured this was a scam that I have heard about and realized the IRS doesn't file suit on you with a recording from unidentified source and tell you to call another number that tells you to call back. So I guess my security has a hole after all. IRS has always written me a letter about any problem. and these are rare.
If I could find a tutorial about these network set up procedures I could fix these things myself instead of spending all day on phone and going crazy.
Now to work on the Windows Live Mail issue.
But as predicted, I am very happy with the FiOS itself and my download speed today was 1.03 MB/second.
Maybe I can fix the other laptop network also which works when connect to router with Ethernet but doesn't work with wireless. Same sort of thing-network adaptor problem.

You are getting somewhere which is great. And you are right those IRS scams are everywhere and they don't call like that either.

Rich oranybody: Do you REALLY think my Gateway 7320 laptop 3-5-2005 DOP can have a network adaptor Broadcom 802.11g and local area adaptor Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller that is bad or nonfunctional when properties say they are operating normally even though the wireless for some reason wont work except with the router plugged in with ethernet? I feel there is something set improperly yet the tech who installed it all could think of nothing else to do, PC is out of warrany and tech support from gateway said $150 for phone support of up to 5 issues which I declined and plugged into router. But I still think it will work. There is a Microsoft knowledge base article 871122 that says setting it up might not work, maybe with WCZ.

It has a wireless G adapter BG now do we know it is on?" Go to Start, then all programs, then click the windows mobility center, when the window opens click turn wireless on, unless it already is. Press the fn+f2 keys as they show the wireless icon on the screen when pressed. Those appear to be the only way to turn it on as it states there is no switch on the case.

Good potential solution by Rich-M I hope that works. Sadly some laptops don't come with a hardware button on the case to turn on wireless.

I did a search and see there do seem to be later Broadcom adaptors I could try. I think one was 802.11n. Dont know anything else to try but just cant accept that it cant work as wireless. Supposed to be able to.

Having also posted an answer on your other thread before seeing this, as a sort of last resort sort of thing, if the laptop was bought second hand, or even if from new either the previous owner, or even yourself at some long time ago, actually physically disconnected the wiring to the wireless card or adapter inside the case. I did exactly that as a security issue to prevent outsiders gaining access to my stuff by latching on to my wireless signal, I don't need wireless as everything is kept close enough to be easily hard wired, and was actually simpler to do rather than messing around with wireless security and odd forms of encryption!
