personaly I see no problem with MSN messenger or google wave, as for a third party application that I doubt many would of heard of, seems a strange choice.

I myself have never heard of BigAnt messenger, and would reiterate the suggestions from Match.

But its depends on what you want, MSN Messenger would be good for Video Conferencing (Or at least I think it supports that, never really had use for Webcams).

The latest innovation by Google is Wave but that is currently invite only e.g. Closed Beta, but from the reviews I've read sounds great for projects and group work, by sharing ideas and documents to build up a project or something from scratch so it sounds good for businesses, and it also supports Video Conferencing, it is probably good for normal chatting between family and friends as well, you can read more about it here - Google Wave - Communicate and collaborate in real time
I want to put an invitation request in for Wave and try it out but no-one I know wants to use it or I haven't asked others.

And having had a quick look at what Big Ant looks like it seems it has been tailor made for businesses from the quick read I had about it.

So I would suggest you could search for reviews on Big Ant and see what that is like, I will say Google Wave looks to be the future with it being an online based tool and similar to cloud computing, so you could choose locally based (which is what Big Ant looks like) or online based with Wave or even other suggestions if they come up.
