I have heard that there is some software available that enables you to download some BBC programmes to your hard drive as opposed to just streaming through iplayer or watching on their player for a limited time.
Has anyone heard about this, I believe its something like " fetch " ?
    Thanks.

You can also download and install AVC, which among many other things, will allow you to burn directly to a DVD disk.
    Have a look here :-

    http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/

Be aware that the download comes from C.Net who are notorious for including unwanted junk in their downloads. If you do use that download link, be aware and read every window that comes up and remove ticks for so called security checks, free toolbars, etc. If offered a choice of Advanced install, use it as that is where the junk can be found to untick and prevent installing it.
A safer download link is from Filehippo, here, (Less junk on the installer)

Thanks for the kind suggestions but they are not what I am seeking. I have downloaders & converters.
Perhaps I need to explain more.........
If for instance I want a BBC programme I have two options on iplayer, one is to stream it, the other to download it if it hasn't expired. If I stream it then I cant save it as well because none of the players will download it. If I download it it will only play in the iplayer & will expire. I want it on my hard drive so I can play it on other players ( VLC for example ) & to have it permanently. No doubt the BBC protect against this but I know there is a way as I have seen it done, just cant remember how & what the software was.

Hi, yes I see now where you are coming from, however this presents a problem for us to recommend anything even if we knew what to recommend. The problem is copyrights, we cannot offer any help in any way that is or can be seen to be helping to break or circumvent copyrights.
Sorry about that but it is in the rules.

Thanks for understanding Tony, though some of the issue does seem to be a bit of a grey area especially when it comes down to what the BBC put copyrights on to, what those copyrights actually mean, what if any are the circumstances of allowed copying of content, and a few more. It is quite definitely a bit of a mine field when some things can be allowed for personal use only, but others aren't.

So in the end, we just have to play safe.

    Nev.
