I presently have Avira Free Antivirus on my computer, and I am wondering since Avira makes it very unclear about exactly what this Free Version is protecting, maybe some more experienced members can tell me if I'm properly protected by this. Thanks!

Ever since Avira has been nagging people to distractio0n about putting on Search bar and/or protection toolbar bar I have stopped recommending it because a "protection toolbar" to me is an oxy moron meaning that if toolbars hang out in front of the browser and therefore cannot be protected against, the reason I have always heard to avoid any of them, why would we install an unprotected toolbar from an Antivirus program?

    Hi John,

Avira do make this information available...... but they don't make it easy to find!

    This is the download link:
    http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus#

Scroll down the page.....About half way down the page, click on Feature Set.
This will give you the information.

It all depends on what other security you are running and what type of surfing you do.
Although the Free versions are reasonably good.... they should really have something else to back them up.
I do still recommend free AV's if someone needs one.... and Avira is one of these.
Because of some of the recent types of malware... i do tend to advise the 'Paid for' versions of Av's now as the extra protection they afford is worth it.
But not everyone can run to the cost of these paid for versions...... so the free versions will always be there.
    Anything is better than nothing
