Had my first problem just now with the New Avast Antivirus.
If the Mail Shield is enabled, then my Microsoft Outlook Express6 won't work properly.
Turned off Mail Shield and all is fine.
Wondering if I can go 1 Day without some problem.

I'm no help with this, unfortunately - but can extend some sympathy! The Avira seems to be working fine but I'm ever so tired of all the throw up windows it does trying to get one to sign up for the Pro version ... so, am waiting until everyone here figures out the hiccups with the newest version of Avast  , and then I'll go back to Avast too. :)

    Hi Dougie,

I'm not sure if this is the problem but it won't hurt to take a look...

    Open Outlook Express

On the Tools menu, click Accounts.

Click the Mail tab, and then click your mail account.

Click Properties, and then click the Servers tab.

Make sure that Log On Using Secure Password Authentication is not checked.

    Select Close.

Restart Outlook Express with Mail Shield enabled and try again.

    Interesting comments about Avast.

I've stopped using it recently as it has trashed two systems I have worked on. Both were XP, both infected and both cleaned using a boot scan. Both needed a repair install after the boot scan finished as they wouldn't log on including Safe Mode.

I've not had that problem for 4 years or so, and two in a row may still be coincidence, the same malware may have been involved, but as a safeguard I've gone over to Avira.

Hi Cindy. That box was unchecked,so definately an Avast Problem.
I rang my ISP Providor, and the technician deleted my outlook Account, set up a new one, and tested everything.
He made sure, the box you referred to, wasn't ticked.
    So clearly, an Avast problem.
So back to Avira again, which I have used for ages, with no issues.
Thanks Cindy for trying to find a solution, for me.
Hi Hatsoff.I will go back to Avira.Just thought new Avast may be something special.

Interesting I haven't had any problems, but I have a backup image of my C Drive so I'll be keeping an eye open :)

I was also false this problem with Avast. But know I am using Winavm anti-virus protection. This anti-virus provides me best protection for my PC security.
