Well XP was great OS until it wasn't.Something got stuck there and I am afraid to do much better I see a drive wiping and reinstall of Windows. You really should replace the drive because it won't take long at all to grow back and why live like that when hard drives are so inexpensive these days? BTW are you aware that hard drives were warranted for 3 years when that one was made?
And the older they get the slower they get?

try running a chkdsk /r on both partitions.

Well, well. It looks like I should have listened to Tony D sooner. That did it! :jump_jack:

Tony, the only reason I aborted chkdsk /r on partition 2 previously was because I came across a site that said it was not recommended to dismount a drive. Not knowing what "dismounting a drive" actually is, I decided to play it safe and aborted. But this time I followed through, and the results now are that I have over 37GB of free space on Partition 1. Thank you!!!

I am curious though, not that anyone has to explain.....but, I only did the chkdsk /r on partition 2 so far. Why would a problem on Partition 2 cause an issue with available free space on Part 1?

    Thanks again...:)

Wish I had an answer. Seems there was something messed up on the drive somewhere. As Rich noted, this may be a sign that the hard drive is failing. Keep your data backed up.
