    Hello stranger you are saying.

    Not been around for a while tummy probs have not felt like to much correspondence.

    hopefully back now and with a request for help.

    My auto hide task bar decides to work when it feels like it and the only way I have found to get round it is the following

    Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) -> Task Manager.
    Select Processes Tab, find 'explorer.exe'.
    Right-Click 'explorer.exe' -> End Process.
    Click File -> New Task (Run...).
    type 'explorer.exe' -> Okay.

    this routine works but it is a pain having to do it 5 or 6 time a session

    Kindest regards
    Bob

    Are your taskbar icons visible or hidden? one solution I read was the problem was created when one of the app icons wanted attention thus causing the taskbar to show itself. Try hiding your taskbar icons by clicking on Customize and selecting 'Hide Icon and Notifications' for each of the icons then see how you get on. At the very least it will prove or disprove the theory.

    Thanks Alan

    Right most of the time I pull my mouses pointer to bottom of screen when I want to see the icons. 40% of the time this works fine then the task bar decides to stick VISABLE.

    Guidance here please Alan
    "clicking on Customize and selecting 'Hide Icon and Notifications' " not sure what you mean.

    Hello stranger...Lol

    Joking aside Bob...it's good to hear from you. I hope the tummy problems have gone away now.

    Following on to what Alan has said. If you're not sure about where "Customise" is...You will see it after right clicking on clear space in the taskbar and selecting Properties. And if for the time being you want to have a continuous view (Until your problem is sorted) of the taskbar...Uncheck "Auto-hide the taskbar.

    I am a little confused (which I consider something akin to a software upgrade from "always confused") I take it you prefer to actually use the auto hide?

    I believe that both of the guys above are correct but I also wonder if you are keeping up with Windows Updates. If you are not you may find that the "Action Center" icon (the flag) will remind you by appearing on the system tray and opening the taskbar.

    Frank is not quite right as Windows 7 differs a bit. The "customize" option which lets you set the status of each icon is reached by clicking the little up arrow next to your system tray. That will display every possible system tray icon and set its status.

    Ok Bob this is what I meant.

    On your taskbar next to the icons you will see a little up arrow, click on that.

    [IMG]

    Now click on 'Customize' and you will be able to change the app's icon behavior.

    [IMG]

    Set them all to 'Hide Icon and Notifications' and click on OK.

    If this works then its a case of finding which of the icons is notifying you of something. If it dosnt, at least we can eliminate it from the possible cures.

    I don't want to be misunderstood. Frank was not wrong in what he posted with regard to unlocking and locking the taskbar even for W7. However what I was referring to is the means to customize each individual icon so as to not have them popping up to often.

    Keep in mind that if it is the update flag causing this, I would do the updates rather than try to keep it from coming up. For that reason I am not going to mention how to disable the service that is represented by that particular icon.

    I agree Barry, what I was trying to do is establish if this is the cause of the problem. There is many with this sort of problem that hasnt managed to solve it yet, so ive read.

    All good advice and everyone has made themselves quite clear.

    Could we wait now till we get some feedback from the original poster with the problem.

    Thanks Guys. :)

    Removing the tick from always show all icons seem to have done the trick. Which was the last thing i did
    After separately showing and unshowing all the Icons one a day may also have had something to do with it. Wharever it was it have not returned for 2 days.

    THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP
    BOB
