    I have win7 and Audacity.

I have a Microphone with a Headphone Plug so I plug it into the front of my PCs Microphone Jack.

I am on a Descktop and I start Audacity.

Under Audio Host I pick "MME"

And under Output Device I pick "Microsoft Sound Mapper"

Under Input Device I pick "Micrososft Mapper" or Microphone I did try both.

I get not sound from my Metter and it records nothing.

But if I set Audio Host Input to "WISAP" I can record anything coming into the pc from say the Internet or youtube or Tunein.

    Can anbody help?

Have you check to make sure the Mic has been selected as the recording device, is not muted, and the slide bar is all the way up?

I have Audacity v 1.3.14-beta on a Windows 7 laptop. To record from the built-in mic, I choose Microphone in the drop-down menu to the right of the microphone symbol.

Also check to see if you get any meter response using the Sound Recorder app which is located under All Programs > Accessories.

I went into my Controle Pannle and look under my MRecording Settings.
And my Microphone has a Check inb it.

And I do not see a Mute on Audacity.

Windows did have a whole Lot of sliders for all of your Audio Inputs before.
And I remember some time I would have to Bring my Microphone Volume all the way up.

GHow do I get these sliders in win7?

Right click your speaker icon in the task bar and select Open Volume Mixer.
You'll see the Audio volume sliders in the window that opens.

The control panel, sound, recording says click on the mic to adjust settings. Does that help?

I right click on my Speaker to open the Sound Mixer.
    It just has 2. sliders
    Headphones
    System Sounds.
    Both are up.

I did open the Windows Recorder and hit record and no it did not record my sound.

    this is very strange???

OK I just set Audio Host to "MME"
And set Output Device to "Microsoft Sound Mapper"

Then in the dropdown list next to the photo of a Microphone I select my Microphone.

Then for the Input Volume Level I Drag the Slider to the far RIGHT as hight as it goes.

I hit record and it worked.

But it recorded the sound very very Low.

I meen when you look at the graph it show a very very small sound.
And I have to Select it and the Ajust the amplifacationj after.

OK so now it all works.

Why is it very very low when I record?

I have no Headphones just the Mic.

And if I plug my Mic into any other Jacks it does not show up in audacity. So I know I have the right Jack for the Mic.
