I saw dalo said on a thread that intel and amd are launching new chips.
I am looking to build a new PC within the coming months and im wondering whether its worth it to hold off to buy these new chips--if there not to expensive that is, and whether they come with significant technological and performance advancements.

OR if i should hold of and just wait for these chips to come out so the processor that im looking at getting (intel i5-2500k) will become cheaper.

    Any thoughts...

Well at this time of year I would hold off to see what deals are available in January, and then its a case of looking for press releases from AMD and Intel for what's happening or planned to happen in the new year ;)

Just to add AMD has already released new processors from the Bulldozer architecture, though they don't seem to be worth getting from the reviews, even the top ones are only matching the i5-2500k you mention.
Intel's Ivy Bridge seems the way to go if you hold off a couple of months, as it is a die shrink to 22nm (down from 32nm on Sandy Bridge) meaning lower power consumption and should have good performance improvements over Sandy Bridge as well.

But how much more expensive would the ivy bridge's be than my 2500k? Is it worth the wait?

I doubt they would be much more expensive, though obviously can't be certain till Intel announce and release them sometime in January (they started mass producing them in Q3), just from what is known like the die shrink to 22nm for example it will be worth the wait if you don't need to build it for a few months, a little bit more information here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Bridge#Ivy_Bridge
