In some ways I think that this technology has some very useful advantages in other ways however I think that electronic tagging of this sort is just another step towards a big brother society,

The guy say that Basically it is stripped down mobile phone technology so how hard would it be, if not already being done to track a persons movements by their cell phone?

Clearly you do not watch television. :D Tracing peoples movements through their cell phones is pretty easy these days. Use a featureless phone if that worries you.

As for the trash thing, I would not want to be the guy who retrieves the tag and I certainly would not select foam to protect them. Yuch!

I'm a thinking that in some ways tracking on phones is a good thing. It lets the police know where you are in case of an emergency.

Also tracking on kids and dogs is another good thing. Say you lost you kid and they have one of those child tracking devices. That sure comes in handy for lost kids and abductions. Same goes for lost dogs. They have a GPS pet tracking device.

As far as trash goes I just don't know! :D

Perhaps another thing to ponder is the security risk that can be found regarding some digital photos taken with some cameras and some phones like iPhones.

Apparently when taking photos with some of the above, information called 'Metadata' is stored within the photo itself - and within this Metadata can be geotagged GPS coordinates.

And while this may great fun to use with photos taken on holiday and then using Google Earth to find exactly where the photo was taken, GPS information may be the last thing we want automatically attached to any photo we (or our children) post on a website or send directly from an iPhone.

I have always considered this an invasion of privacy. To me, that far outweighs the

usefulness that it may have. You have to ask yourself, where do you draw the line

in the sand? Just my two pennies...

I drew my line at Mokey Fraggle's microchip. She has no right to claim a human rights violation and needs me for protection. :rckon:
