What makes you think you have lost active X? Error message? When did this first appear?

Hi Marie
Further to BeeCeeBee's Question you could check your ActiveX settings in IE.

To use Gmail's standard view, enable ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer. You can do this by going to the Tools menu, selecting Internet Options, Security tab, Internet zone, and either select the Default Level, or selecting Custom Level and scrolling down to "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" and selecting Enable.

Gmail requires ActiveX controls to be enabled

Your browser seems to be Internet Explorer, and ActiveX seems to be disabled. Gmail's standard view requires ActiveX to be enabled in order to operate.

If this has just started happening, try doing system restore to a point when things were working for you. System restore can be found in "All Programs" then "Accessories" and finally "System restore." In windows 7 you can simply type System Restore in the search box.
