    Hello,
About a year ago, the screen on my laptop (Acer Aspire 4720z) started turning a greenish color when I tilted the screen past about half-way. I decided to leave it, and see if it got any worse. Since this is not my primary computer, I was not too worried about it. Today though, I was on skype with my cousin, and the mic cut out. It only started working again when I tilted the screen. Frustrated, I decided to take apart the laptop and check if I could see any obvious loose connections. I followed a repair guide (http://tinyurl.com/4y3g478), and did not find anything out of the ordinary. However, once I re-assembled everything, the problem got worse. Now my screen is distorted all the time and moving the screen back and forth no longer fixes it. Also, the mic does not work at all. I was very careful when I took it apart, and I did not pull on any cables. I am wondering if replacing the lcd cable would solve the screen problem. I found one on eBay for $18 dollars (http://tinyurl.com/3gkwyzh), but I want to know if it would solve the problem.

    Thanks

It would likely solve the problem as it was based on a movement which sounds like the cable was tugging slightly out of place, but a couple of things you could try before buying the new cable are plugging in an external monitor/tv to make sure it isn't a graphics card or motherboard problem and also updating the graphics card drivers to the latest version if possible.

As for the mic, it may have come loose when you put it back together, very fiddly things to put back correctly, some easier than others, so would be worth checking when you open it up again.

I can add that the cable to the lid and screen, and also in this case the Mic, with constant use being bent backward and forward, conductors inside can break, the only cure of course is a new cable. For the price there is nothing lost in replacing it, after of course trying an external screen if you have access to one, which will prove the graphics are OK or not.

As the others have said really, its not a very good design, and the cable stretches over time and eventually some of the wires break apart inside the plastic casing.
Replacing the cable is easy but you normally have to take the screen out of the casing to get to the wires, if your handy with a soldering iron, I would just replace the wiring itself.

Let us know how you get on
