Hi all, now recently ive just installed sky broadband as a new isp, so i thought before i installed it i would do a full system recovery and get rid of most software so that the computer would run a little faster just in time for the internet to arrive.
Something went wrong during the recovery tho, ive managed to get the computer to a working state but the computer is 10 times slower in general.

I was just wondering wether or not i had some major software missing as it kept popping up with Hardware "unkown" was detected, install the correct software to enable it to work. So any help on wether something has gone terribly wrong is much appreciated, i have hi jack installed if you wish for any logs. Thanks for any help :)

Before we start recommending HJT logs I suggest you take a look at your device manager and see if there are any warnings posted in the form of yellow ! warning icons or red Xs.

If you do not know how to access the device manager we will guide you through it.

    Ok I am a little confused :)
Do you mean before you did the "recovery?" If so, what were they?

While we are at it lets get "full system recovery" defined. What exactly did you do?

Yeah sorry could have made it a little clearer,

I used system recovery and about half way through it, the computer crashed, when i turned it back on again there was hardware unrecognised and software missing, ive tried to find and remember all the pieces needed to operate the P.C however the computer is slower then ever.

Ok there where three yellow warnings after the crash and after i started the p.c back up, they where, a "ethernet controller" which was detected and had software missing for it but have now installed that one,

Second was a "BUS" hardware and i found the software for that,

Third one was a "Unkown" hardware but seems to have dissapeared as there are no more warnings of it.

Oh and i also had to re activate Windows by the recovery key if that helps a little.

It sounds to me that the recovery was not complete and that something got corrupted during the crash that you encountered.

You may want to start again from scratch, that will probably mean activation again but maybe not. If you feel that there may be something that a HJT will show please feel free to post it here. It will not be me reading it but it may show something.

I think that something major has been lost/corrupted during your restore. Unless any of the others knows how to recover from thsi, I would suggest a format and complete reinstallation of windows, and as soon as that's done, if you got a CD with your motherboard, put that in and install all the drivers off that.

Note, that this will get rid of all your files, so you will want to back them up before hand.

As I said, some of the others may have another solution but this seems to be the only one I can see working fully.

Why did you think you needed to change anything for a new ISP?

from looking at your HJT log you have alot of programs running at start up that do you no favours (we can discuss this after your initial issue is solved)

I assume that Sky sent you some kind of 'installation disk'?
did you use this to configure?
