7 Wont Install On Harddrive

Can I just add the reason for the error code and then you can understand what the issue is?

A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0x80070002.


EDIT.

I see the first picture shows the list of channels and that the HDD is set at fourth channel.It appears to me that the HDD is in the wrong port on the mainboard,it should show in BIOS as First channel device.

That is how it appears. Now was the old HDD attached in the same way or was it attached to the ribbon along with the DVD/CD drive?

 

yes you are right, the ribbon cable goes to cd/dvd...I set the first boot cd/dvd, second new h,drive..I did,nt disable new hard drive when installing new os...mark.

 

for some reason you can,t change the settings for the channels..the only settings you can change is boot settings.mark

 

I am prepared to learn something here but it seems to me that the bios is "looking" for an IDE HDD and the only one attached is clearly SATA. That leads me to believe that the original drive was IDE. I would have assumed that a new SATA drive would be recognized but I am not sure. That is why we have DALO and Cindy etc. (You too Jelly Bean )

I think JB may be on to something about those SATA Ports.

Are we absolutely certain that we are dealing with a perfectly legit license here? I am not prying into your use but this could also be the cause for a failure to install. Your profile does not indicate an OS so we need to make sure for your own good. If this does not apply please accept my apology and if it does we won't bite. :snckr:

Assuming that there are no license issues did you install XP on that drive before attempting to install 7? (You don't show an OS but most of your posts are in XP.) If you do have XP and try to select upgrade it will not work. To go from XP to Windows 7 you need to do a clean (or custom ) install. I don't know if this applies but it is at least worth mentioning in case we are missing a forest because we are looking at trees.

 

yes this is a genuine OP system , and it works ok on my laptop...this was running xp before i bought a new hard-drive ,the old one was running xp

Ok when you say it works on your laptop, you arent trying to use the same OS disk and key are you?

Regarding the SATA ports, it makes no difference which port its in as long as the board recognises it as a SATA channel and that that channel is at the top of the 'to be booted list'

Your BIOS is clearly showing that an IDE drive is present even though there isnt one (from the pics)

For an install, you need to check that the first boot device is CD/DVD rom and then (for ease of any problems) disable the 2nd 3rd 4th etc. When the OS is asking you where to install to there should only be 1 partition on the HDD (this will be W7 or XP depending on which was/is on it) REFORMAT that partition and then install.
It should run through the process and then reboot the system, IF you get an error in the post screen saying OS NOT FOUND PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND RESTART press CTRL + ALT + DEL and it will take you back to the beginning of the post screen (enter the BIOS) and set the first boot device to HDD and then save and exit (leave the others disabled) it should run the startup and boot to windows.

The only thing that I think if anything to do with the SATA ports is if you are trying to use a RAID port, some MOBOs are very fussy about certain ports especially RAID ones, if you have the MOBO booklet it will tell you in there what each SATA port is RAID and which is not (if you get the MOBO model we can get the booklet and double check)
