If this is not the right group please let me know. I have a few 2K3
servers and running DFS that has some how gone bad. Out of 3
locations, for some odd reason one location doesn't use the server
that is closest to it, it goes to the furthest and downloads it to
open it. Anything I should look in to why this occurring? Please
    help.

  2. Hello rkovelman,

Do you have a domain based namespace or a standalone namespace? Are these 3
locations on the same or different subnets? First look into your subnets.
    and then
If you are using domain based dfs and the dc are the roots,
I will edit registry key to include
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dfs
"PreferLogonDC" dword:value of 1. This will force users to use location 3 dc
    as their default dfs shares.

  3. Hello rkovelman,

This technet resource might help explain your situation in detail. Look on
DFS Site Discovery and Target Selection
