    Well it will stop them talking about Nostradamus and Aztec's, However as you say they will probably claim a miscalculation caused through the variances in the Earth's spin and Orbit, thus giving a date in 2013, but it's funny to me that prophecies depicting the end of civilisation, get transformed into End of the world events.

    but I think I will spend my time more concerned about the bus while crossing the road :D

    Well, it can be true to say it will end in December, to be precise the end of the last day of December, however I am talking about 2011, and 2012 and 2013 etc.
    Obviously all previous to 2011 have already ended.
