    What is the difference between:

    Windows Server Standard 2008 R2
    and
Windows Server Standard 2008 with Service Pack 2?

  2. It's like the difference between Vista with Service Pack 2 and Seven.

  3. Hello dlw,

R2 is a release with additional feature not included in 2008.

SP2 is just a bundle of patches and hotfixes, which you could download before
    the SP as single ones.

    Best regards

    So, does 2008 R2 contain SP2?

Not really. It is the next version of the OS. It is a different code base.
You cannot apply a Server 2008 service pack to R2. Hopefully all the
problems fixed with SP2 in 2008 have been addressed in the base code of R2.
