Force the registry might be the solution but using a third party
"registry" tuner is NOT recommended. A quick look across the Internet
will show you a lot of "angry" posts concerning the screw-ups
"registry" tuner softwares will / can cause. Once a registry tuner
software "damages" a registry, an usual recommended repair is to
    reinstall XP.

You can look at PowerStrip for more tools to look at the EDID
    porblems.

Hello Quest and Smlunatick.. I assure you that the program will not
cause any changes with my instructions. I will see the registry exports
and advise changes accordingly. If you don't trust me, then I will post
the code to the registry fix so that you can cross-check that it
    contains nothing malicious.

I will now start afresh. Hopefully you should not have any problems
with these set of instructions. [IMG]

Please download the self-extracting version of *RegSeeker* from
    *'here' (.
It is a working copy from my computer loaded with nothing malicious. You
can scan it if you don't believe me.

Please save the copy to your *Desktop*. Double-click on the downloaded
file and click on the *Install* button. After the "installation" is
complete, you will see a folder on your *Desktop* named *RegSeeker*.
Open the folder and double-click on the file named *RegSeeker.exe* as
    shown in the below image.

Open the program, and switch to the *Find in registry...* section as
    shown in the next image.

Check all of the boxes present and type *Resolution* in the *Search
    for:* field.

Click on the *Search!* box. It will perform a detailed search of all
the registry entries with resolution in their name. Please wait
patiently while the search is in progress. After the search is
completed, highlight all the resultant entries, right-click on them and
select *Export selected items*. Give it a suitable name and press the
*OK* button. Acknowledge the corresponding prompt by clicking *OK!*.

Now, enter the *Backup* folder within the *RegSeeker* folder. Enter the
folder and find the file you exported. Please upload the file to a
    file-hosting site like *'Mediafire'
    (
and post the link to the file in your next
    reply.

Sorry for putting you through all this. I just hope this works out.
Even if it doesn't, I will look up to other alternatives. [IMG]

    Kind regards.

Glad you got it resolved. That was exactly what I intended to do. Only,
I had planned it as a means of a registry fix so that you could save the
fix and apply it again if the problem resurfaced.

Please ask again if you have any more questions.

    Kind regards.

    Hey,

I have the same problem as you do, i have tried everything i can think
of and nothing seems to be working, even forced resolution using the
registry. I will post the locations of the values for you anyway, it may
    work for you:

    HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\VIDEO... after
which should be a folder starting with "{23A77BF7..." in there will be
another folder usually named "0000". In this folder will be 2 keys,
    DefaultSettings.XResolution and DefaultSettings.YResolution change the
Decimal values to the Resolution for horizontal and vertical values
    respectfully.

I think the Catalyst driver settings are overriding the registry so it
has to be something in Catalyst.

    Thanks
