I am currently using the Zone Alarm free firewall.

When I logged in this morning, the pop up shown below appeared on my screen.

    .

I was able to update / run MBAM and MSE. I did full scans with each. Which turned up nothing.

Per advice found here , I ran CMD line queries which gave no results.

I also searched the registry manually for instances of this trojan. I may very well having nothing

to be concerned about. but I'm not confident of this. I'm running W7HP x64 . I'd like to go through

the process of confirming that my system is free and clear of any infection. Thanks.

You are not serious, are you?

Don't be fooled. It's fake or more commonly known as scareware. ZoneAlarm
has made this up to try and get you to buy their products..

That pop-up looks very suspicious to me. The fact that it has a "Get Protection" button strikes me that the alert is a spoof. Any thought on that?

Edit: Just saw allheart's post. I guess that is the answer.

I assumed you knew of Zonealarm's prior reputation for this marketing scheme. It smacks of the rogue
programs that try and scare you into purchasing their fake security. I certainly would not trust any
company that resorts to this tactic. Free or not, they crossed the line, once again.

Is this the company you really want to rely on to provide protection for your computer?

In preparation for removal from my system, I have disabled the Zone Alarm firewall / enabled the windows firewall.
Is there a tool recommended for ZA removal ? Or do I proceed with the typical removal method ?

    P.S.

I have had a wired router between my modem and my system for some time now. Upon installation, I disabled the WAN ping option in the router for added peace of mind.

The thing to remember here is that Zone Alarm is a firewall.
A firewall will only do so much. But it doesn't stop them from scaring you into paying for something that probably won't really help that much.
ZA wouldn't be my first choice for a firewall..... too much bad history.
Zeus/Zbot are well known now and most anti malware/anti virus protectors will be able to neutralize the threat.
Ok, you are running a 64 bit system, which does hamper things slightly.... but you will still have cover from MBAM, SAS, MSSE, etc..

MS keep pushing the 64 bit OS, but not all the security programs are compliant with 64 bit.
It all comes down to cost.... most of the decent security programs are written by people that just want to help make a difference.
But MS doesn't make it easy for them.... it's all to do with the requirement for signed drivers.
We are slowly getting there with security programs, but MS is pushing faster than the security guys can keep up.

When I was buying my laptop it was almost impossible to avoid the 64bit W7. After some searching and some good luck I found one I liked with 32bit. Yipee!!

I can see the point of a 64bit system.....
But MS should help to make it easier for us guys to develop the programs to help save it when it all goes belly up.
    .... and it will.
