A Colorado woman was arrested by federal authorities in Denver, allegedly for providing assistance to Islamist insurgents currently battling government forces in both Syria and Iraq, and for plotting an offense against the US.

According to a criminal complaint, Shannon Maureen Conley planned to travel to Syria through Turkey, and there meet a co-conspirator believed to be affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, known as ISIL, ISIS or simply the IS.

Conley is believed to have first made contact with a co-conspirator linked to the Islamic State online in 2013, noted in court documents only as Y.M. Authorities state that the two "shared their view of Islam as requiring participation in violent jihad against any non-believers."

Federal officials believe the goal for Conley was to provide support to ISIL, and contact between her and Y.M. suggested she might have also been involved in actual fighting for the group. Bolstering that claim, Conley had attended military tactics and firearms training with the US Army Explorers in Texas as recently as February, reports Reuters.

Conley first captured the attention of investigators in November 2013, when she was seen taking notes outside of the Faith Bible Church in Arvada, Colorado. Since the church had been the site of a 2007 shooting that left two people dead, FBC officials quickly contacted police when they confronted Conley about her notes.

"Conley made spontaneous statements to church staff to the effect of: 'Why is the church worried about a terrorist attack?' and, that terrorists are: '…not allowed to kill aging adults and little children,'" the complaint said, as quoted by the Denver Channel.

Lol. Poor thing. She is an example of those that needs supervision of online activity to assure the naughty sites she visits does not affect her mental health.

I don't understand the fuss is from the media, just send her to Gitmo and end of storey. A terrorist after-all has no rights according to the FBI, no?

    Speculative motive. Check
    Speculative goal. Check.
    Speculative contact. Check.

Well ISIS (or ISIL) is just a name for a newly declared country/group that has done quite a damage. Though the idea has existed for a long time. Took over Iraqi cities, executed government officials and military personnel, even seized US equipments intended for the Iraqi government. I'd say they are more of a threat than al-Qaeda alone could ever pose to any Islamic state.

While they appear better armed and organized, lets remember their arms were the ones the Iraqui Armies threw down at them in their paths as they were running away so they certainly are a greater threat in that area and if possible they might be more militant. But your point is you don't understand the press making a fuss over this? I don't see where they are. Although one thing you have to realize is there is almost no news reporting in this country any more, everything is opinions not news no matter where you look. I am sick of all the so called "news" networks.

That was in reference to the young woman specifically. I remember tunning in to different major news and it was on their front cover. I just find it annoying them giving all the attention to this westerner as if it is something new. People have been traveling to Turkey for many years now in order to meet up with the Syrian rebels and other organisation in the ME.

Regardless of a news reporting agency in Iraq, the group has posted many of their activities on the web (public executions of soldiers that abandoned their post). Sometimes, a news organisation has to make analysis in order to inform their audience of the situation. Most articles I saw posts about things we can find out and confirm through various sources, such as the initiative of Prime Minister Maliki and his severed ties with Washington after several comments made by the national legislature etc... It is hard to put out news material that is 100% accurate because each and everyone has their own views/opinions, though I applaud the journalists who actually attempt to write with complete accuracy and less on bias. (Unlike those from CNN, FOX. lol)

As bad as they are Cindy MSNBC and CNN are also terribly slanted...though MSNBC doesn't even try to have newscasts at least.

Not to mention CNN failed geography so many times on air. (Couldn't even point out where Ukraine was during the 'Maidan'.)
