Try Start Menu -> Accessories and right-click on on Command Prompt and Run
    as Administrator.

    Run SFC /SCANNOW

    and see what results.

I got the same error message while trying to figure out why SP2 won't
    install.

It's under C:\Windows\Logs\CBS. You can not open the file directly, make a
copy of CBS.LOG and open the copy. If it's huge, delete it and run SFC
/SCANNOW, the log will be much smaller and more relevent.

Once you open CBS.LOG, search for "Beginning Verify and Repair". It should
be near the end of the log. Look for "Cannot verify component files for"
and write down all the component names.

    <to be continued>

    Bleh.

You can find the Settings.ini file at C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar and
check it to see if there's garbage in there.

Your problem is with WMI, so this is a Deadend.

Here is the fix I found on this page...

    http://www.msfn.org/board/Here-s-how-to-Fix-WMI-Event-ID-10-Ins-t114389.html

    "
in service manager stop Windows Management Instrumentation Service, it will
also stop it's dependencies Security Center, and IP Helper

in administrator elevated command prompt (left hit win key to open start
menu search, type cmd then ctrl+left shift and press enter) use an admin
    accounts log in details :

this will start a cmd shell with full admin privileges. using that :

    c:
    cd \
    md backupres
    cd \
    cd windows\system32\wbem\repository
    move * c:\backupres
    exit

service manager start first Windows Management Instrumentation Service and
then Security Center, and IP Helper.

you may wish to use computer manager -> Services and Applications -> WMI
    Control
right click it, select properties, use the Backup and restore tab to create
a repository backup to resolve this issue quicker if it happens again.
