    Hello CHF world,
My problem is that at the school i go to, I am a comp tech. We have a shop across the street from the main school. We have wireless over there but for some reason today it cut out on us. I was sent over to try and fix it, but I dont know what is wrong. Af first I could see the connection of my school, but now even that is gone. It is doing this on five diffrent laptops. Any help would be great.

    Thanks, NobodyImportant

I was surprised no one has answered you till I read you post!

The obvious problem is Distance, would it not make better sense to have the router in the same building?

It would also help to know what the make and model the router is, so as to check which features it has that could be enabled/disabled that may be causing the problem?

and if you want me to be honest, I have a strange feeling that you and your school mates were connecting to the shop wifi without permission so as to bypass you schools restricted internet, and that the owner of the wifi has now secured and hidden the connection, making it impossible to detect or connect to. without knowing the passwords and access codes.

I too an getting a bit curious about you. You started off with a thread about a computer on a shelf and now this. You label yourself as having "Some Experience" but then say you are a "comp.tech."
That comment troubles me as well. Sent by whom? If you are a computer tech in a recognized program I assume you have teachers who know more than you. I am now suggesting (wrong) requiring a complete explanation before we continue. Please feel free to post but as of this minute all posts will be read by a staff member before it appears on the forums until we are satisfied that we should continue.

Yes, I do suppose I owe you all an explenation. You see, I am a senior in High school. One of my classes is "comp tech". In this class I am sent around my school fixing problems: setting up windows outlook, viruses, wireless, makeing ethernet cords. ect.. I have one teacher/supt, that is above me, all of my other teachers dont know much. My teacher/supt is a very busy person, she doesn't always have time to help us when we need it. Also the problem was fixed, Boss came down and fixed it: I still dont know what was wrong. Anyway I originaly joined this forum to help me when I needed someone with more experience. I posted the thread about my wall mounted computer to break the ice with your members. I mean to be mean, but I dont think that this is the right site for me. I will continue to log and respond to any questions/comments that anyone has until the 22, then I will deactivate my account and move on.

Take a little advice from someone who is far from being a Senior In High School. I have met many young people who astound me with what they know. All in all that means very little without the ability to communicate. Yours seems to be lacking and some of your comments a bit over the top.

The people who give their time here are adults, not simply because they are a bit older but because they know how to deal with people as well as computers. At one point in another topic of yours you even questioned the credentials of our staff. While we appreciate your willingness to stick around until the 22nd before you move on, that will not be necessary. If you wish to continue as a member you are welcome to do so. If you are staying for comments on this post there will be none. The issue has been resolved and the topic closed.
