My room is in the basement, and my Linksys router is set up in the room like right above my room. Lately I have been having a lot of problems with my wireless internet. It will just all of the sudden stop working. The amount of time it stops working varies. Sometimes I can just exit out and retry a couple times and it will work. Other times I have to restart my computer to get it working again. Some days I will constantly have this problems and other days it will only happen a couple times.

I have the same exact problem when using my iPhone while Im in the basement. The wifi will all of the sudden just stop working. However, it works perfectly when I am upstairs. I don't use my laptop upstairs a whole lot so I can't say for sure that it works perfectly, but I don't ever remember this problem happening while I am upstairs.

Any ideas or suggestions to what I can do to make this stop happening? It is very frustrating. Like I said my room is in the basement, and that is mainly the only place I ever use my laptop, so it sucks when my interent is going out all the time.

Another problem that may or may not be related, is with my xbox live. My xbox live isn't wireless, it his hooked up with an ethernet cord to the router, but I always seem to have bad connection on there as well, and my NAT type is moderate when it is supposed to be open.

I am wondering if its just a problem with my router? If a new router will fix all of my issues, I will gladly purchase one. I just don't want to spend the money on one and still experience the same issues.

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron N4010 with Windows 7 home premium. Router is a Linksys.

    Any help is appreciated :)

    Hi and welcome to CHF

I can understand you having wireless problems - but if you are connected by ethernet cable then this should be problem free.

I had connection problems a while back - wireless dropping out randomly - and a replacement router solved this.

You could try switching the router off - leave for 1 minute - switch on.
If this doesn't help I would replace the router.

I agree with KenB. You have not indicated what model of Lynksys you have but that would really only help us determine how old it may be. To the best of my knowledge there are no Lynksys routers being produced anymore as it has been bought out by Cisco. If you have possible range or obstruction issues make sure you buy wireless N format. If your computer is old and does not meet the N standard the router is still backwards compatible.
