Help me understand Wireless Connections on XP. If I open network connections I see Network Setup Wizard, New Connection Wizard, 1394 Connection, Local Area Connection, Wireless Network Connection 2, Wireless Connection 3. Sometimes there is one called Internet Connection but it is not there now. Comes and goes & I dont know what it is. The wireless connection 2 is my FiOS Internet. The Local Connection is disabled and is in tray with red X and is the Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated C Adaptor and I am not sure what it is supposed to do. In the Broadcom box, checks are in Client for MS, File & Printer Sharing, AEGIS protocol (IEE802.1x) v3.7.5.0,Wireless LAN NDIS Protocol I/O) Control, and Internet Protocl (TCP/IP). I am not sure what all these are for or which should have a check in box. I no longer have a dialup but only FiOS internet wireless, but this laptop also has an ethernet connection if I take to router and plug it in. Not sure which adaptors are for this but dont wish lo lose it. Unchecked are the boxes Show Icon In Notification Area and Notify Me When Connection Has Limiter Or No Connectivity.
Since I dont understand these and dont want to lose something I need I just left them as is. But I do not know what the WIreless 3 connection is that says it is the Broadcom 802.11g Network Adaptor which the computer shop said doesnt work and I use a USB wireless adaptor that Cindy may have suggested.
Also I think I might have set up a wireless network by accident which I think might be the wireless 3 network that says it is disabled. If it is a working network I d not know any name for it nor can identify it and was wondering if I should delete it or how to find out just what it is.
If I start messing with network connections a warning box comes up saying some trouble might occur if I make changes so I get scared and cancel the box.
Can anyone sort any of this out? I may not even need to know all this, and things are working well so dont want to tinker, but would like to have a better understanding of what these things are and do. ANyone know or have anythiong to contribute? Thanks, if so. Sorry for such a wordy post.
