Is it true that MS will not be supporting XP after next year?

    Yes that's correct.
    Support Ends April 8, 2014
You will still be able to use XP without support.
I know friends using Windows 95 still and there has been no support for Windows 95 for years.:)

    So what does 'support' mean?

As far as I know, it merely means that there will be no more updates. No more updates which usually address security vulnerabilities.

I could be wrong as this is not something I follow closely.

Another issue you may encounter is trying to install a new device, I.e., printer. The new device may not have a driver for your older (XP) operating system.

However, I think most printers will support XP for a few years. I'm not worried.
