I would like to sell or donate my old HP 23 Pavillion 64 bit desktop running 8.1. But I can't seem to disable/delete/work around the Microsoft prompt that asks for username and password every time I log in. I certainly don't want to share those credentials with the next user. But can't figure out how to just make the computer boot directly to Windows without Microsoft prompts.

Steps taken already: Tried restore to factory default, but could not due to error message. Access 'change settings", but link is unresponsive (I see this is a common bug). Got on phone with Windows support and re-downloaded Windows 8.1 from scratch; the download completed but no install prompts or evidence.

Nothing has worked so far. Help! Thx.

    Hello.

Create a new user account, but leave the password blank when requested. Once that is done, delete your account.
