I used Windows Easy Transfer via my home network connection to transfer my
files and settings from my old Windows XP computer to my new Windows Vista
Home Premium computer. I ended up with a folder on my desktop which has my
name that contains the following sub-folders:

    AppData
    Contacts
    Desktop
    Documents
    Downloads
    Favorites
    Links
    Local Settings
    Music
    Pictures
    PrintHood
    Saved Games
    Searches
    Videos
    WINDOWS
    Gmail
    LuResult
    ntuser.dat.LOG1
    ntuser.dat.LOG2

Do I need to save the folder on my desktop with my name on it that has all
these sub-folders. Do I need to save some of the above sub-folders. I think
the sub-folders may also now be in other places. For example all the files in
my Documents sub-folder on the desktop are also in the Documents folder I
access by clicking on the windows start button.

    Thanks for your advice

The user folder on the Desktop is simply a handy shortcut that you can use
to access your personal user files.

If you do not want that link on the Desktop, you can remove it. Right click
an empty spot on the desktop and select Personalize. In the left side of the
new window, click 'Change Desktop Icons' and remove the check mark from
    Users Files. Apply/OK.

  3. I have strange problem with the tool, when i begin the transfer after
some small period of time it stuck on both sides. On the XP machine i
    see blinking "network disconnected" icon.
i have connection between the machines because i run remote desktop
    from one to other.
I tried to run it 2-3 times, same problem on different time slots.
    what can it be?

I am having the same issue. Moving files from XP to new Vista Desktop; and
has been blinking for 30 minutes, but both report ".transferring files"

Both computer on own private network.

Your solution may be my solution

Whatever you are doing, do NOT use WET to transfer Outlook data (if you are
using it - it WILL corrupt your mail profile)
