I have just purchased a new HP desktop running Windows 8. I have completed the inevitable important updates, however, there are still some optional updates and I would like to know if there are any benefits or otherwise in installing them:

    1. Microsoft Silverlight (KB2668562)
    2. IDT - Audio Device - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
    3. Intel Corporation - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2 - Intel(R) HD Graphics
    4. Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2883201)
    5. Bing Desktop v1.3

    Thanks in anticipation,
    Vavaseur

Silverlight is really nothing more than Microsofts answer to Adobe's Flash player. (Which you do need for Youtube and a few other video sites)
Very few websites depend entirely on Silverlight. The fact there is an update means it is already installed. You can leave it on or uninstall it, entirely up to you.

Bing is again a Microsoft answer, in this case to Google, once again it may already be installed as a search bar or Windows 8 equivalent. I recommend uninstalling that if you can find it, if indeed it is installed as an earlier version. If you do need to use Bing to search for something, you can still go on the website, just the same as Google's. No need at all for additional tool bars or additions to other tool bars.

    Nev.
