Microsoft have said that Windows 7 will be on sale by August this year at the latest.

The full retail release will be around October for the public.

Acer vice-president let slip of a potential 23rd October release date.

Microsoft: Windows 7 release in August '09

    Interesting news.

I've got Windows 7 RC to try it all out..... and so far.. I love it. From what I have seen this is an operating system I would endorse. I dual boot between Vista and 7RC on my new desktop, and my old desktop ran XP as does my laptop. Between the three, 7 gets my vote.

I just installed it on an old p3 1ghz with 256 memory just to see if it would run. It does well. No fancy UI, but, it is as snappy as XP was on it. Really impressed with it overall. The improvements from the various beta builds I have installed are easy to see.

There are still some quirks with it on my netboot. Windows draw API seems a bit quirky. I get black screen when UAC prompt kicks in and I have to hit show desktop to get the desktop to redraw correctly. I thought it was a bad GMA 500 driver, but, after doing some research it seems it is a bug in the code.

    I must agree dave,

I don't like the look of it, and I don't see a need for it. They brought out the beta before the first service package for Vista. they're jumping the guns a bit by trying to eradicate vista before it's even made it big in my opinion.

I like vista how it is, I don't see how people complain about it as it works perfectly fine for me and does all that I would want an OS to do.

So what are the problems with 7? Specifically?

I love it. I've been beta testing for Microsoft since Windows 95 and this is the first beta I have ever run as my day to day OS. I liked the windows preview on hover in Vista, but, always wondered what was the use of it. You couldn't actually see the window. Now that preview is functional and with the groupings it is much easier to navigate through them. I could have as many as 20 winodws open at a time and finding and switching to any of them is very easy. I liked Vista, but, I can't see ever switching back.

Hey Bonnie, well I will explain that my main concern with the OS is that it is Microsoft's way of trying to take more control over every users PC.
This is shown due to the fact that now, windows updates are downloaded and installed, without ANY user interaction, and from working on these PC Help forums, we know that a lot of problems are caused by some of these downloads/patches being wrong etc. At least with vista/XP you get to chose which to install and when, but Windows 7 does it without you knowing until you turn on your pc the next day to find it wont boot.

I also am not a fan of the way they plan to bully people to part with their money and buy the OS, as Barry stated in another thread I believe, that the Windows 7 RC is valid till June 2010 but from March 1st, everyone's PC with the OS will shut down every 2 hours to remind you to buy it. How many people will go 3 months, with their PC shutting down every 2 hours?

Do Microsoft really think this will increase sales?

I see no difference between Vista and 7 except a few visual upgrades which are not good enough to cancel out the additional negatives it has over the current Vista.

As one reviewer wrote "Microsoft, with great power, comes great responsibility, and I do not elieve you are trustworthy in that department, on the basis that I would be installing an OS that the user has extremely little control over."

I have the same views as this person and believe that Microsoft have taken more than just 1 step too far in trying to "Dominate" the OS market by dominating the users PCs.

That is just my view and reasons why I will not be looking into working with Windows 7 ever, in the future. I have had my 30 mins of it and couldn't take anymore.

I welcome all opinions and replies.
